FM200 panel vs fire alarm panel

Dear,

I have a room which is being served by FM200 panel and fire alarm panel is used for monitoring,

in case of smoke detection, FM200 panel will turn off the ventilation (fans off, close motorized dampers, shutdown louver and turn off split units) and fire alarm panel is only monitoring FM200 panel,

is this the common practice or usually fire alarm panel will control the ventilation and dampers?

That’s going to depend on local regulations. In North America the fire alarm panel has to comply with strict standards. I don’t know if this restricts it from doing any sort of control however I spent 25 years in the fire service and I never saw a fire alarm panel that did anything other than monitor and notify (no control). My guess is that it can’t, it can only be a system monitor.

Our experience has been that there is the fire alarm system, then there is the "fire panel", which is where firefighters go to control all HVAC related equipment; dampers, fans, etc.

When we integrate building controls, fire panel controls must have final control over all HVAC control elements. Because fire panel must be able to control these devices,regardless of status of building controls, PLC-based or otherwise, consideration must be given during integration. Typically, hard-wired control signals must be switchable at fire panel between building control and fire panel control.

Different authorities have different rules.
