Hi, I am trying to load a program into my Mitsubishi Fx plc with the program Melsec SWOPC-FXGP/Win-E v3.0. But there is still an old program in its memory. When I try to clear the memory nothing happens. And overwriting the old program doesn't work, because it verifys the new with the old program.
I heard something about a protect switch ? How does this work.

Please help me !
 
The protect switch is on the memory cassette in the plc. If the cassette is an FX-EPROM-8, it can only be written to with an eprom writer. Most likely it will be an FX-EEPROM. Also, make sure the FX is not in run mode.
 
No eeprom

Hi,

Today I opened th plc (FX-24-MR). There was no eprom inside, but a 256k sram chip. I couldn't find any switch or something like that. Also I looked through different manuals, but couldn't find anything about clearing the memory or overwrite existing programs.
 
I know of no 'protect' switch on the FX. The only switch is the RUN/STOP switch!

Just to be clear, you are putting the PLC into 'stop' while trying to clear the memory or load the new program.

I must assume that you are because if you try loading a new program the software will warn you that it is in RUN mode.

The FX model has a battery; Try unplugging that for an hour or two and that should clear the memory and program.
 
There is no "protect switch" or "run switch" on the "FX" series plc.
The "run" is enabled through the s/s(start/stop) terminals on the plc.
Make sure the plc is not in run. The FXo and up have the run switch.

I agree with Goody, try the battery thing.
Also I have not used the Melsec SWOPC-FXGP/Win-E v3.0 software.
You might want to try an older version.

OOPS! I think in addition to the s/s terminal there is also a run terminal.

I have a FX-EEPROM-8 in my hand and it indeed has a protect switch.
If memory serves me I could only transfer a program to the eeprom through a hand held programmer. The only software I had at the time was the old
DOS based MEDOC software and a demo Windows version that would let me program the FX series but not allow eeprom transfers. The plc was a FX-128-MR-ES.

If there is a chip installed in the eeprom slot it may be a one time prom chip that can not be programmed more than once.
If that is the case it will overide any program that you are trying to load.

If there is a chip installed in the eeprom slot I would remove it and
try again.

One small point scooter. All the FX models I have dealt with, do have a run/stop switch. But there are varying models sold around the world.

They also have a dedicated run input that you can enable as a 'run' input or just an ordinary input.


It does sound like that there is a protected eeprom in this one though; but i have never come across a protected eeprom for this model.
 
Sounds like Mitsubishi has different models for different areas of the world. I'm using several FX models in machines manufactured in Germany. All contain the EEPROM with the protect switch. RUN/STOP can only be accomplished removing the input to the RUN input terminal. I've never had experience with an FX-24.
 
SOLUTION FOR LOADING NEW PROGRAM IN MITSUBISHI PLC FX SERIES.

MITSUBISHI PLC AND DISPLAY PROGRAMMING DETAILS:

PROCEDURE FOR SOFTWARE UPDATION USING LAPTOP OR COMPUTER:

1. PLEASE ENSURE THAT FOLLOWING TOOLS ARE AVAILABLE READLY
2. LAPTOP,
3. POWER SUPPLY UNIT FOR LAPTOP
4. COMMUNICATION CABLES 2NOS(RS232C TO RS422 CONVERTER CABLE & CABLE WITH RS232C FEMALE CONNECTOR AT BOTH THE ENDS)

STEPS TO BE FOLLOWED FOR LOADING SOTFWARE IN PLC SYSTEM:

10. CONNECT THE POWER SUPPLY UNIT TO LAPTOP AND SWITCH ON THE SINGLE PHASE SUPPLY.TURN ON THE LAPTOP AND WAIT UNTIL MOUSE POINTERCONTAINS ONLY SINGLE ARROW HEAD.CLICK ON THE MITSUBIHSI PLC SOFTWARE ICON (FX-GP-WIN-E) AND OPEN THE REQUIRED PLC SOFTWARE FILE.
11. TOTAL NUMBER OF LINES (INDICATED IN THE BOTTOM TOOL BAR) IN DISPLAYED LADDER LOGIC FORMAT HAS TO BE VERIFIED.
12. SWITCH OFF THE MAIN SUPPLY AND WAIT UNTIL ALL LEDs ARE SWITCHED OFF IN PLC UNIT.
13. DISCONNECT THE COMMUNICATION CABLE CONNECTING THE DISPLAY AND PLC (RS422 END). SET THE RUN/STOP DIP SWITCH IN PLC TO STOP MODE
14. CONNECT THE COMMUNICATION CABLE (RS232C TO RS422 CONVERTER CABLE (RED COLOUR)) FROM PC COM PORT 1 TO PLC UNIT AND SWITCH ON THE MAIN ISOLATER OF THE CONTROL PANEL.
15. PLEASE NOTE THAT THE PROGRAM WILL COPIED TO “EEPROM “ WHEN PROGRAM IS DOWNLOADED WITH EEPROM IN PLC INCASE THER IS NO EEPROM PROGRAM GETS COPIED TO RAM [WHICH IS INBUILT INSIDE THE PLC].PLEASE NOTE THAT THE PROGRAM IN EEPROM WILL NOT GET COPIED TO RAM OR VICEVERSA. HOWEVER FIRST PRERENCE WILL BE GIVEN TO EEPROM.
VERY IMPORTAT >>>>>>> 16. EEPROM SELECTER DIP SWITCH SETTING. OFF - PROGRAM EDITING MODE (DURING LOADING THE NEW PROGRAM)
a. ON - DURING NORMAL RUNING MODE.
b. FOR LOADING NEW PROGRAM EEPROM DIP SWITCH SHOULD IN OFF CONDTION.
17. FROM THE MENU SCREEN OF PLC SOFTWARE CLICK ‘PLC’ & SELECT “REMOTE RUN/STOP”.
18. A DIALOG OPENS TO CONFIRM PLC TO STOP MODE.CLICK OK TO SET PLC TO STOP MODE.
19. FROM THE MENU SCREEN OF PLC SOFTWARE CLICK “PLC”, SELECT “TRANSFER” & SELECT “WRITE”.
20. THE WORD “ WRITING ” WILL BE DISPLAYED IN THE LAPTOP. WHEN LOADING HAS BEEN COMPLETED THE INDICATION “WRITING “ WILL DISAPPEAR.
21. AFTER LOADING THE PROGRAM IN EEPROM AND RAM, SWITCH OFF THE MAIN SUPPLY AND REMOVE THE COMMUNICATION CABLE CONNECTED BETWEEN LAPTOP AND PLC.

1. SWITCH OFF THE MAIN ISOLATER AND WAIT UNTIL ALL LEDs ARE SWITCHED OFF IN PLC UNIT.
2. CLOSE THE MITSUBIHSI PLC SOFTWARE (FX-GP-WIN-E) IN LAPTOP. CLICK ON THE DISPLAY SOFTWARE (GT DESIGNER) AND OPEN THE REQUIRED FILE TO BE DOWN LOADED.
3. FROM THE TOP MENU BAR CLICK ON “COMMUNICATION” AND SELECT “MONITOR DOWN LOAD DATA”. A DIALOG BOX WILL BE OPENED IN THAT CLICK “ DOWNLOAD “. ALERT NOTE WILL BE DISPLAYED STATING THAT OPERATION OF ANY BUTTION/MOUSE WILL CANCEL THE DOWN LOADING PROCESS.
4. DURING DATA TRANSFER TOTAL NUMBER OF BYTES & NUMBER OF BYTES TRANSFERRED WILL BE DISPLAYED IN LATOP, “LOADING THE BASE PROGRAM” WILL BE DISPLAYED IN THE DISPLAY SYSTEM.
5. AFTER LOADING THE PROGRAM IN DISPLAY SYSTEM SWITCH OFF THE MAIN ISOLATOR AND REMOVE THE COMMUNICATION CABLE CONNECTED BETWEEN LAPTOP AND DISPLAY SYSTEM.
6. SHUTDOWN THE LAPTOP AND SWITCH OF THE SINGLE PHASE SUPPLY TO THE POWER SUPPLY UNIT.
7. CONNECT THE COMMUNICATION CABLE CONNECTED BETWEEN PLC & DISPLAY SYSTEM AND SWITCH ON THE MAIN ISOLATER.
8. TURN THE PLC DIP SWITCH TO RUN MODE FOR NORMAL OPERATION.

Memory cleared

Dear Goody,

I unplugged the battery for an hour or two and the memory was cleared.
But when I try to load the new program into the plc it gives an parameter error. Looking at the plc diagnostics it says Error 6402. Also the led prog-e/cpu-e keeps blinking.
I looked through different manuals but couldn't find the error.
B.t.w. the plc is in stop mode, I disconnected the cable to the run terminal.

Anandaraj.R: I don't know the price from our plc. We bought an used vacuumchamber where the plc is used for switching different valves en starting pumps. But it has an FX-24-MR (MPU), FX-8EYR, FX-4AD and a FX-232AW.

STOP the programmable logic controller, select the parameter mode, set the correct data.



It seems the memory settings are wrong with your new program. The default for an FX is 2k but you may have an eeprom in with more memory. Try a few higher settings.
