Good day all. I had to purchase a new VersaView 1700P as my old one bit the dust. I need to remove Factory Talk platform 2.10 (CPR 9). When I try to remove using the Windows utility, I get a message that I need the CD-ROM to uninstall it. I have been talking with Rockwell Tech Support for over a week and am no closer to getting this resolved. Does anyone know how I can remove Rockwell Software, without a CD-ROM? Thank you

Here's a dumb suggestion, maybe it will work. Find The Install date by checking the folder creation date for the Factory Talk under "Properties". Then, do a Restore to an earlier date than that. If it doesn't do the job, Undo the Restore.

Sounds like you are trying to use add / remove programs in xp and that is the problem. See if under the factory talk view program there is a unistaller in the tools menu maybe.

If you have a tech support contract you can download that version of FT View.

Also i did'nt think rockwell shipped versaview units with ft view pre installed anymore. Sounds like you may have gotten a unit that has been on the shelf for a while.

Just a tip to make this easy for me i have a couple things that i like to do to new versa view panels out of the box

First i make a good clean out of the box image of that machine with a imaging tool called shadow protect desktop from a company called storage craft. It is the best imaging tool hands down. http://www.storagecraft.com/shadow_protect_desktop.php

Second i record all the data from the versaview i.e. windows key, serial #,Model # etc and make it into a .pdf file.

Third i install a snapshot tools such as eaz fix http://www.eazsolution.com/en/eazpro.php or deep freeze http://www.faronics.com/en/Products...rporate.aspx?gclid=CLaYz7ftjaYCFYXD7Qod1RTNnw

This gives you the ability to install and try things and revert to the old image in less than 60 seconds if needed

Fourth i backup all drivers with a frre utility called driver max http://www.drivermax.com/ so you always can restore the drivers if needed.

Fith and most important i install vm ware player and do all my ft view apps in a vm and run it from the versaview. This makes it easy to install new versions, make changes, test offline and you can get it running on the versaview in under 5 minutes which comes in handy if it is hard to get line down time at your location. This way it does not matter what is installed on the host enviroment.

Just some tips.

I wound-up having to wipe out my HMIs' memory and starting over. Even the Rockwell Techs remote accessing my system tried and couldn't believe it.

I can see that as FT View is less than perfect software and does have some deep hooks into the OS.

All the more reason to use vm ware and keep you host clean ands basic.
