Panel view 900

I am currently trying to run my Rslink,s thru a panel view 900 to a AB plc 5/02. Using only a serial cable with RS 232 connections then a serial to usb adapter into my lap top. I have use this set up on AB plc 5/04 and up with no problems. But havent been able to get it to work thru the panel view. Have made a new Rs 232 cable with all connections going straight thru. But wondering what drivers configuration I should use. Started with the Rs-232 driver type. Then to configure it. Used com 1 with the SLC0CHO/micro/Panelview. Then tried auto-config but with no luck. Is there a step I am missing. Or will this set up not work at all.

This is a variation on a very common question.

You need to use the 1747-PIC/AIC+ driver in RSLinx to connect to the SLC-5/02 controller (or any other device on a DH485 network).

The 1747-PIC/AIC+ driver will not work with any kind of USB/RS232 converter.

You need a 1747-UIC interface, which connects via USB directly, to connect to this DH485 network from your laptop that lacks a serial port.

I think that you are describing connecting to the RS-232 serial port of a PanelView 900 terminal, and then "passing through" to the DH485 network and the SLC-5/02 controller. This function is not supported by the PanelView 900 terminal.

Ok so the set up I have been using for the 5/04 will not work. As we get back to the orginal problem that the IT dept bought us new lap tops with no serial ports on them. So that is why went with the RS 232 cable thru a usb adapter. Instead of using the 1747 pic that we know and love. The rs 232 connecting cord i made up has two female ends on it to make it happen and it does work on the newer plc,s. So if i made up the same cord but with one side male to plug into my pic adapter can just use my pic to get online? If this is the case why was not told this before?

But being in the middle of the desert hard to just run the store to buy new cable. Have to try and work with what I have.
