Any possible hazards doing a RS Logix 5000 upgrade with Service Platform ?

Good Evening ,

A few months ago I upgraded my RS Logix 5000 , and my service platform
became corrupt . Has this happened to any of you ? I need to upgrade to v28 .
Should I be concerned ? Any precautions you recommend ?

Virtual machine.
Snapshot it.
Install, hope for the best.
When it fails, roll back to the snapshot, and try again.

Could you explain how Virtual actually works ? I here so much about that but I don't understand it. So you are saying , I can take a snapshot of my present RS Logix 5000 and save it in virtual ?

I think he's talking about using a virtual machine on your PC to run the RSLogix/Studio 5000 software, and making a snapshot of it before you install the v28 software. Then if anything goes wrong you just roll back your virtual machine to what it was before you attempted installing v28. Not so much what to do about upgrading your PLC firmware to v28.

My FTSP has become corrupt once or twice, usually Control Panel>Programs and Features>Repair fixes it. If not, an uninstall and reinstall of the FTSP should do the trick.

If you install a newer version of Studio 5000, it will quite often come with an updated version of FTSP which will install over the old, corrupted version anyway, so that's another way you could potentially fix it.

Aside from using virtual machines for all your programming software (which is something any programmer arguably should be doing these days), my only precaution would be, don't upgrade until you have to time troubleshoot any issues that may arise during the upgrade.
