Directlogic250 problem

Hey guys, i have a second hand 250 CPU i'm trying to connect to on my test bench and i cant for the life of me get it to connect.

plc is on with power light green
switch is on term mode
cable is from the automation direct box of cables - port 1 - rj12 lead plugged into a d type serial plug into com1 on pc
serial port is set to com 1
baud rate 9600 - odd
only setting im not sure is the address - i have it on the standard "1"

using directsoft 6 - just keeps saying cant detect plc.
I have tried K sequence and direct net

is there anything i have missed or is maybe the CPU cactus?

Makke sure you don't have Allen Bradley's RSLinx running. It may steal access to the port even if Rslogix is not running.
