Twincat 3 Simulation mode

Can anyone tell me how to go about running simulation mode in Twincat3

I have project in a CP6606 which I need to test some code that creates and writes to as file and it would be easier if I could simulate it.
In Twincat 2 and other codesys environments there is an option under PLC to switch to simulation mode, however I can't see that in Twincat 3.

Hm, there is no such thing as "simulation mode" option in TwinCAT 2, you just had to select "Local" as your target system in TwinCAT System Manager.

In TwinCAT 3 it's the same (image attached) - you have to select "Local", then go TWINCAT -> Activate Configuration (it'll ask you to generate trial runtime licenses) and after that you are ready for the PLC -> Login part.

I did try that and generated the license, however when I try to log in I get the following errors

Error 11 01/03/2018 10:47:01 436 ms | 'TCRTIME' (200): start of real-time avoided by "KB4056894"

Error 12 01/03/2018 10:47:01 437 ms | 'TwinCAT System' (10000): Sending ams command >> Init4\RTime: Start Interrupt: Ticker started >> AdsWarning: 4132 (0x1024, RTIME: incompatible software detected) << failed!

I'm using windows 10 , I'm going to try installing on Windows 7 to see if that works
 
If you already have I/O's in your configuration you have to disable them first. To do that, go to devices on the project tree, right mouse click and choose disable. Then activate your configuration again

There was recent issue with spectre/meltdown patch, following systems are affected:

Windows 10 64bit with TwinCAT 3
Windows 7 64bit with TwinCAT 3
Windows Server 64bit with TwinCAT 3

PDF with instructions on solving this exceeds forum limit (300 kB), I can send it to you if you provide an e-mail.
