Belated Congratulations, Peter
I just finished reading Peter Natchaway's excellent article in the July issue of Machine Design magazine. It is very well written and full of information for those involved in motion control.
Great job, Peter! |

Thanks, I had help
There are at least 5 people invovled. We too were impressed by the quality of the graphics. We supplied graphics but Machine Design enhanced them. There are 3 or 4 people that review and edit what I wrote. I was also fortunate to get the space.
I have another coming up in H&P about feed forwards where I try to explain why feed forwards are required for accurate motion. |

Peter, please do provide a link when the H&P article comes out. I also enjoyed your article and look forward to the next one as I'm looking at applying some feed forward to an intensifier control servo valve.

Great job. What I like about you is that you are a hands on guy. Someone who actually does what he preaches. There too many people out there who write articles but they never do anything themselves.
As general Schwarzkopf once said people who send other people to a war are not heroes only people who take part in the war are heroes. Well same analogy applies here, people who watch other people to do design (mid level managers and such) are not designers! Also people who only taught but never practiced are not designers! On the www.isa.org they are pushing Jim Pinto's book about controls. I have met the guy once. Once we bought a whole bunch of their Action Vu-Pacs industrial PC's. The biggest piece of junk I have ever seen. We had to replace half of them within 6 months. He came in to defend the piece of junk, eventually they got out of the PC business. This guy is being promoted left and right and I consider him to be one of those people who look at other people doing the design! Why don't you write a book on the subject and cash in on your knowledge. I would think that you have more to offer than Jim Pinto. Also, this web site might be happy to sell it for you. Just a thought. Good luck.
