New Computer in RSView system

When replacing a computer in a RSview to SLC500/5 system, where are the RSlinx configuration files kept? I was hoping it was just a case of copying files and then unpluging the old computer pluging in the new one and off it goes!! no such luck!! comms is via TCP/IP, help! linx can see the PLC in rswho but RSView has no comms!

RSLinx has a utility to backup and restore its settings. You name the file what ever you want, and save it where ever you want.

In case your problem is not solely Linx configuration files which Alaric has answered.
Can you ping from the computer to the PLC.
In an installation onto a new pc you need to set up the channels and nodes in your RSView 32 project tree.
It is worth while deleting the cache files in your new project so it can recreate, a new and clean memory for its cache, so as to avoid different pc clashes in data.

As a side line how did you go with the 2 monitors we discussed in a previous post.

Thanks for those replies, will check the Linx save file feature that I wasnt aware of, Cache, is that the files in RSView\Project_5\cache\RDMDATA ? also no luck yet with the 2 monitors, our system is one computer with RSview in the lab with 2 clone monitors so the boys can view the "worms" (graph plots)in the smoko room and one computer in the plant using Pcanywhere mirroring the screen in the lab, this was the one that they requested 2 monitors to view 2 pages simultaneously! can't be done with the current setup.

I think \cache\ICE may also be present

Any files in the \cache\ folder will be recreated on startup if it is needed.
One other cache file is also found in the tags folder, it will have the project name.cac
\Project_5.cac
It can also be deleted as it will also be recreated on startup I routinely do so if I do alteration to the Data Base as it saves another reboot if you strike a synchonisation error.
Thanks for the reply about dual monitors.

Still no joy!

Can ping the PLC OK, but still get the same error message in RSView "channel 1 error (192.168.0.6) the communication driver has not been configured"
Have also backed up and restored the RSlinx file, that seemed to go OK,and can now see the topics

I suspect that you do not have TCP/IP set in channels of your RSView project folder

Thanks for the reply Gil, yes iv'e done that step. On reading a few posts on this forum i'm thinking maybe its not just a case of copying the project folder but backing up and restoring with the "transport" utility thou I havent seen this refered to with RSview32!, would'nt it be easy if you could just clone the drive!

In the last year, I also upgraded the PC running RSView 32 and it did take a bit of time and thought to set up the Communications. With the message you are getting your problem seems to be with the Linx driver, which you said you can ping so all would seem OK there, and that seems to me to only leave channels or nodes having a mismatch to the Linx, maybe with the OPC or topics Ethernet or TCP/IP somewhere in that lot, as they seem to need set up individually on each machine, even if it seems you are making a copy of whats on another machine.

A silly question thought.
You did also shift an activation for Linx and RSView 32.
I know silly question.

When I transfered my project I just copied it from one drive to the other via Ethernet not compressed, I used to only use the transfer wizard to compress the file so it would fit onto a floppy disk, but once the file size exceeded disk size, I went with copy via Ethernet and removing cache files .

Maybe some screen shots could be useful, if we are to be of much more help.

The two options for moving the project are Winzip and the Transport Wizard (Start->Rockwell Software->RsView32 Tools->Transport)

Neither is perfect but they both work.
