Music What is "Harmony"? ... RS Gurus ...

There are several posts on fixing random RSLinx glitches by removing "harmony" .hrc and .rsh. A post on mrplc brought back this issue.

It seems like I've dealt with this before, but can't lay a finger on it - and it's really starting to annoy me. Don't leave yet Ken, we still depend on you .

What's it do? What's it for?

Thanks - good info. I'll still be looking for more specific technical explainations.

Simplictic but it keeps me happy.
I look at those two files as Cache files, that have determined how your comms set up works, so that it does not need to be created for each call.
Now some times thru an alteration to Comms, or corruption, these files don't want to let go, and by deleting them it needs to recreate how your comms set up is NOW.

It's just such an odd, screwy relic. Good to know for professionals in our field. A Get Out of Jail Free card in some cases.

You'd think that after being dead for over a decade, these silly DDE and COM implementations would have been displaced in favor of simpler technologies that work. I know that nobody's arguing in favor of it - but legacy support can be really painful. My $.02.
