i have a panel view 1000 2711-t10c15
it has a control net and rs 232 ports, i just want to use rs232 port to download my program and then disconect from my computer and connect to my micrologix and activate inputs , can i do this???????

The serial port on a PanelView Standard terminal equipped with DH+, RIO, ControlNet or EtherNet/IP is only for upload/download of applications or for use as a Printer port.

You cannot use that port for runtime communications with a controller.

I don't think there are any options for ControlNet on Micrologix 1500. Yes, that PanelView can only communicate with a PLC via ControlNet.

The RS-232 (DH-485) PanelView terminals can communicate with:
§ SLC (5/03, 5/04, 5/05), CompactLogix, or MicroLogix using a point-to-point connection
§ MicroLogix through the AIC+ module
DH-485 parameters for PanelView RS-232 terminals are defined in the Communication Setup dialog (accessed from the Terminal Setup dialog). Refer to Scan Groups .
Point-to-Point Connection
§ To connect the RS-232 (DH-485) PanelView terminal to the following an SLC (5/03, 5/04, 5/05), CompactLogix, or MicroLogix 1500LRP use cable 2711-NC13, -NC14, or 2706-NC13.
§ To connect the RS-232 (DH-485) PanelView terminal to a MicroLogix 1000, 1200, or 1500LSP use cable 2711-NC21 or -NC22.
AIC+ Connection
To connect the RS-232 (DH-485) PanelView to a MicroLogix 1000, 1200, 1500LSP through the 1761-NET-AIC module, use cable 1761-CBL-HM02 or -AM00. To connect the PanelView to the AIC+ module, use cable 2711-NC13, -NC14, or 2706-NC13.

Yup. But none of the above is going to allow you to connect your ControlNet PV to your ML1500.

just to make nice and clear, micky or anybody , i dont not now how to use , or even know what controlnet does, i just got a good deal for the panel view 1000, i just want to make sure i could just make some push butons on the screen on the panel view and then download to the panel view, then write the same adress on my micrologix 1500 that i use on the panel view , then connect the panel view to my plc directly and activate my inputs by touching the screen on the panel view, all this using the rs232 port on my panel view to plc for runtime ???

Again: The RS-232 port on your specific 2711-T10C15 PanelView terminal is for application upload/download and for printing.

The RS-232 port on that PanelView model cannot communicate with any kind of programmable controller.

Only PanelView terminals that support DH485 or DF1 Full Duplex protocols can communicate with your MicroLogix 1500 controller.

All your quoted statements mean nothing because you don't have an "RS232 (DH-485)" terminal. You have a Controlnet terminal. Controlnet is a communication and control method. The Micrologix DOES NOT USE Controlnet.

i just got a good deal for the panel view 1000

Well ... maybe not so good.

SORRY GUYS, I DID MY HOME WORK, AND YOUR RIGHT,

SO HERE I GO !!!!!

I GOT A PANEL VIEW 2711-T10c15 which has an control net and rs232 ports on it, now i have spoken to a ab tech, my options are:

for the slc 500, buy communication module (1747kfc15) which has a rs232 port and control net port> "unsubcribed"

for compactlogix, buy processor (1769-L32c) whach has a controlnet and rs232 ports on it "unsubscribed"

now they say i dont need rsnetworx software becuase i only have a panel view and processor or card module, so that only be the only devices on that network!!,
ok now i know nothing about control net at all, but i will in time!
so guys help out, which is the easy way!! slc 500 or compactlogix??

AND TO KEN ROACH,BERNIE CARLTON, MICKEY, THANK YOU GUYS FOR THE HELP YOU HAVE GIVING TO ME EVERY TIME I AM ON HERE

You can program the SLC with RSLogix500 software, for the CompactLogix, you'll need RSLogix5000.

The compactlogix is going to be more powerful and capable than the SLC, but the software cost might be the deciding factor here.

Paul

i have rs 500 pro ver8.10 and rs5000 ver17 mini
and also have slc 500 plc, micrologix 1500 lsp and compactlogix plc

so my question is which one is easy to config for control net slc 500 or compactlogix??????
