CX-Programmer to Omron CS1G-CPU42H
I inherited a couple machines using Omron CS1G-CPU42H PLCs. My first experience with these ever. They have an Ethernet card in their I/O configuration, CS1W-ETN11.
They work just fine. But when I tried to go online, I could ping the IP Address, but could not connect to the PLC using CX-Programmer. After reading a bunch of help files and searching around various forums, I was at a loss. Subnets all matched, etc. Then I noticed an option under the "Network Settings" called Workstation Node Number. This was set to 15, yet the "Auto-Detect" box was checked. I figured that the Auto Detect would override this setting, but unless my IP Address ends in 15, I cannot go online. Searching through the help files, I can't find anything on this setting. CX-Programmer gives a memory error if I try to open the help file on "Change PLC" which is where I think this option information is. Is there a way to make it so any IP Address on the local network can connect to the PLC, not just the one in the Workstation setting? |

This would only happen if you have multiple Ethernet Cards in your PC, or you have more than one IP assigned to a single Ethernet Card. Unfortunately, CX-Programmer isn't very smart when it comes to selecting the correct Node Address in these circumstances. You would think it would select the Address based on the IP for the PLC, but it doesn't.

There are two active connections on my laptop.
10.0.0.xxx my local wireless 192.168.3.xxx in this case .15 in order to connect The PLC's IP address is set to 192.168.3.1 FINS Source 0 FINS Destination, Network 0, Node 1 Workstation Node Number 15, Auto Detect checked. So I'll just have to live with it? Not a problem for me. I'll just have to remember to write the PC address needed on a piece of paper for the maintenance electricians to be able to change to the right one. |

Cannot remember exactly, but I think network adaptor binding order sorts this issue out.
This is under advanced settings of network settings I think. If u make the network u want to use the top of the list, then it should solve it. I am on mobile just now, but if you cannot find it, let me know & I will post a screen shot. |

I'll try when I get to work this morning. My wireless network is first in the list, so that may be. I'll see if I can find the option to switch their order.

Just an update:
I never found a way to do it, and today I install CX-Programmer on a different laptop (migrating to another). I was testing it out, and set my IP address to the same address my old laptop was. I couldn't connect! Looking around, the Workstation number just changed to 152, instead of 15. Switched my IP Address to .152 and it could connect! Some weird stuff right there. I just copied the projects directly over, and suddenly the PLC Network settings changed from 15 to 152... I verified that it is still 15 on my old laptop. |

I am currently doing a job with 8 x Omron CJ2M PLCs using Ethernet IP.
Addresses are all in the 192.168.250.xxx range. Set the laptop to 192.168.250.20 - could not connect. Had to turn the firewall off and all was good.

I did end up solving it, found the binding order of the network adapters.
Set the adapter I was using for connecting to the PLC and set that at the top of the list, and now it works just fine, regardless of the actual IP address. I actually never bothered until one day they decided to change the PC that was pulling data from the Omron PLC into a database for HMI stuff using CX Server. They ran into the same problems my laptop was. I revisited this topic and looked deeper to find the binding order of the adapters. As soon as I set the adapter being used to the top of the list, the PC could connect to the PLC no problem. In Windows 7, it's under Network and Sharing, Change Adapter Settings, then you have to press the ALT key to get to the menus, Advanced -> "Advanced Settings..." Then you just move the network adapters up/down in a list to determine the order. |
