Communication with a SLC 5/01

Hello, I need to connect with a SLC 5/01 (1747-L511) in order to see what is the current program that it has, since I don't have a lot of experience with Allen Bradley I've been investigating about this model, but there's something (silly) I don't understand.

Once I finish uploading the program with Rslogix, how do I disconnect the 1747-UIC once I'm done? Do I just simply unplug it or i need to do something else?

Yes, you can simply unplug it. I recommend putting a label next to that RJ socket on the SLC/501 warning that it is 'NOT ETHERNET".

once you have UPLOADED the program, save it to your laptop.
then go offline and unplug the cable.

The plc won't even know you've been there unless you edit something.

With the SLC's and MicroLogic's there's nothing to worry about when disconnecting - unless you disconnect during a download of a new program.


When you get into Studio5000 and the ControlLogix's though there is a special bug that if you disconnect while testing online edits, before compiling them and finishing, the PLC will crash. There is a Knowledgebase article about this, but I haven't seen any resolution and it isn't mentioned if this is still a bug in the latest version 35.
