Hot standby vs Warm Standby

Can anyone tell me the main differences of Hot standby vs Warm Standby ?

Warm = Data is mirrored at intervals

Is this done by means of parallel i/o connections or is it software based on the cpus? I would like to know about Schneider's systems( at the time ) to be more specific.
