Dear all,

I'm a using a flow meter for first time in my life, attached is the name plate details of krohne make flow meter.

In this 4-20mA is used for measuring current flow value and pulse output is used for accumulated flow volume.

I do not know how to use this pulse output. How do I make any sense out of it? It is written that pulse output is passive. Do i need to supply any power to it?

There is also a contact/ status output in this flow meter. what for this contact/status output is provided.

Thanks in advance,
Charz

In general terms:

An active output gets it electrical power from whatever electrical power powers the instrument (flow meter). If you put a milliameter on an active 4-20mA output, it will show some current in the 4-20mA range.

A passive output uses a different dc power supply than the one that powers the instrument. This is done reduce the likelihood of common mode ground loops. If you put a milliameter on a passive 4-20mA output that does not have a DC power supply in its circuit, the meter will show 0mA, because the loop is not powered.

An output that uses 'kHz' is a frequency output. The output is generally used for flow rate, for example where a configured 0-5kHz flow rate for 0-100L/s would show 5kHz at maximum flow rate (100L/s), 2.5kHz at 50% of flow rate (50L/s) and 1250Hz (1.25kHz) at 25% of flow rate (25L/s).

Status shows events like alarms, batch total achieved, things like that.

A pulse for a given flow total, for example one pulse per 100L is done either on an electromechanical relay output or a solid state discrete output.

The outputs of flow meters of the grade can be configured (via a keypad or HART) for what their function can be, then determine how it needs to be configured for what this application needs to do.

You need to look at the wiring output diagrams and the function diagrams for each of the outputs.
