Not sure if I titled that right in using the correct terminology, but What are good references that I can go to, use, or read up on that will give me the most basic approach to understanding any one of these if not all three, for PLC5,SLC 500 and Logix 5000, for instance like word inputs and outputs to and from outside devices such as Panelviews/HMI's? The most basic stuff. Thanks.

There are differences between the Devicenet Scanner Cards for each of the three PLC Families you listed. The best place to start with them is their User Manual which you can find here.

Also, do a search for Devicenet here, and you will find a number of other Documents.

A simple search on the AB Website would have found you a number of Links such as this one.

Then of course, there is always Google.
