I'm needing to communicate a ControlLogix Processor with serial and Ethernet communications with a Siemens MicroMaster M440 Drive that has USS protocol capabilities...

How can I interface both?

I'm really lost with this since I'm not familiarized with USS, and I need this to work with the ControlLogix.

Does anyone know of a gateway for USS/DF1, USS/DH485, or USS/EtherNet/IP conversion?

Thanks!!

The Data Station Plus (http://www.redlion.net/Products/HumanMachineInterface/DataStationPlus/DataStationPlus.html) can communicate DF1, DH485, and EIP, as well as USS and can be used as a protocol converter. The USS driver we have was devloped for the Simovert, unfortunately I am not very familiar with the Simovert or the MircoMaster, so I am not sure if it will work. Here is a link to the application note for communicating USS, maybe this will suit your application: http://www.redlion.net/Support/ApplicationNote/SimovertUSS.pdf

Regards,

Old thread, but looking into a similar application (will probably just put the drives on Profibus), but all I could find is you could in-theory make a Prosoft module work:

And, ProSoft also makes a full Profibus Master Module for Logix platforms. Really, it doesn't make sense to roll your own if you don't have to; especially if there will ever in the future be an upgrade or expansion to the system.

Now what fun is that for the end customer? In 10 years when everyone that was involved in the project is dead or gone and the new guy that has been there 2 weeks gets to reverse engineer what someone else did.

If you look at the development cost of rolling your own you spend more in man hours than the cost of the original card.
