Hello,
I have an AB MicroLogix PLC (1400 1766-L32BWA), and I want to communicate with the SLC500 PLC (1747-L40C)
has any of you already done so.
thank you for your help and your suggestions.

The "shoebox" style SLC-500 controllers such as the 1747-L40C have only a Data Highway 485 (DH485) proprietary network connector.

That port on the 1747-L40C looks similar to an Ethernet connector but is NOT the same; do not connect it to an Ethernet cable or device. There is +24V on one of the pins and it will very probably damage any Ethernet device you connect.

The MicroLogix 1400 supports Data Highway 485 protocol through both its Channel 0 (round mini-DIN style with RS-232 and RS-485 wiring) and Channel 1 (Dsub-9 RS-232).

How far apart are the controllers ? If they are only a few meters, you may be able to connect using a custom cable between the non-isolated MicroLogix Channel 0 port with a 1763-NC01 wiring adapter and the 1747-L40C's DH485 jack.

Otherwise you will probably use a 1761-NET-AIC, which is an RS-232 / RS-485 converter and isolator.

Thank you for your answer.
both plc ML1400 and slc500 are in one panel.
for the 1763-NC01 cable has an 8-Pin Mini DIN connector which will be connected to ML1400 and the other 6-Pin Phoenix connector which will be connected to the slc500.
but the slc500 has a port similar to an ethernet port. how do I connect from the 6-Pin Phoenix connector to the (ethernet) port of the slc500.

The RJ-45 jack on the SLC-500 controller is NOT Ethernet. I recommend putting a prominent label on it to the effect of "NOT ETHERNET" or "DO NOT CONNECT TO ETHERNET"

You can connect a MicroLogix 1100 or 1400 controller Channel 0 serial port using the 1763-NC01 cable and a homemade cable to the SLC-500 DH485 port.

I saw your other post asking how to connect Ethernet to the SLC-500. The only method is a standalone network gateway.

Hello,
thank you for your answer it is really appreciated, yes you are right I posted yesterday how I can connect SLC500-1747L40C to the ethernet network.
the goal is to be able to communicate with ML1400 and exchange data.
there are people who have suggested to me to change the plc SLC500 with a PLC ML1400,
but for the company it will require a lot of validation given the activity of the company.
so i want to either connect the two plcs to the ethenet network for the ML1400 it's doable and easy but for SLC500 it's a bit complex.
either connect the ML1400 to the ethernet network and connect the slc500 to the ML1400.
What do you think is the best option?

Hello,
I connect ML1400 with the 1747-L40C plc via the 1763-NC01 cable and the cable I made as you mentioned.
(between the ch0 of ML1400 and DH485 port similar to the ethernet port). on rslinx I can see ML1400
but I don't see SLC-500 (1747-L40C). are there any setting to be changed on ML1400 or slc500?
thank you.

If you have the SLC hooked up to the ML140O0 via 485 and are looking at the
ML1400 with ethernet I don't believe there is a pass through to to see the SLC
and I dont think it will show in your RSLinx.

what is the test i can do to see if the two plc are communicating?

If you are monitoring the ML1400
Write a read message in the 1400 is pointed at the SLC
Maybe at an integer file being used in the SLC and see if it shows up
in the 1400.
Are you familiar with READ/WRITE messaging.

finally it works, we do not see slc500 1747-L40C on Rslinx. but we communicate with the MSG instruction. thanks to Ken Roach and Roxusa. I very much appreciate your help
A +
cheers
