A long story short I had to re-install windows on the computer.

I copied all the HMI project files from the C:\Users\Public\Documents\RSView Enterprise\ME\HMI projects, to a network folder before formatting.

After re-install I copied the HMI project files into the new directory.

But still can't see them in the FTView "Open" dialog box.

Any Thoughts?

Thanks!

Yeah, you cannot simply copy the files back. The FT directory won't see them. You needed to archive and restore them using the Application Manager. You could at this point you the AM to attach the files to the directory.

Forgive my ignorance. Not following your last statement.
"Attach the files to the directory".

What I should have said is have the Application Manager copy the files into the directory. You probably should move the files that you manually copied there, to another location first.

Hopefully there is an APA archive of each project. This is the only method fro transferring projects. The Application Manager can then be used to 'Restore' each project.

The projects consist of much more than just the files in the directory. There are lots of entries in the Registry. When creating an APA backup (also done using Application Manager) all this information is also included in that file.

I was able to get the projects loaded by using the "new" tab and import the .med file on the FT opener.
All the data appears to have been transferred, less the RSlinx settings. But those are easy to re-produce.

Imagine if you went to the folder where Microsoft Office is stored and copied all those files to a similar folder on a different PC, would you be able to run Excel? No.

FT applications work much the same way, you need to use the Application Manager (AM) in the future. As you discovered there is a way to recover the HMI Server, but I do not believe that method will recover any of the user names or passwords you might have configured. Using the AM you can choose to restore the FactoryTalk Directory or not. Also any OPC servers or as you discovered RSLinx, would all have to be redone.
