Well Site

When talking water / waste water can someone explain to me what a well site is and how it's used? Is it used on the clean water or waste water side?

My understanding, waste. It's synonymous with an injection well which is used to inject waste deep into the ground below the water table into the porous areas of rock.

I worked for a water utility in southern Nevada. There were a lot of wells. They are indeed raw water and have to have a disinfection system incorporated at the discharge into the system. In the winter or off season for demand, water from Lake Mead (our system) was pumped down into the wells in a 'recharge' operation. There were laws under the Safe Drinking Water Act that dealt specifically with well systems. If there were more than like 30 people on a well, then it was considered a public system and not a private well, and needed all the business for disinfection.

We have many wells up here in Michigan. My water supply comes from 5 or so super wells, but the water is crappy due to the rotting dinosaurs and vegetation down below. All I can say is its wet, you can wash your vehicle from it and water plants, but it is horrible for drinking. That's why everyone and their brother's sell water up here.

It stinks so bad, that when you do laundry, despite your efforts to tame it down, it still stinks. (you smell like an old person)

The good news is I'm not paying $24/week going to the laundry mat around the corner. Albeit, some of the Amish gals were pretty cute, but couldn't understand one word from the Asian gals.

Even there, fresh laundry still smelled.

To put it simply and probably the most accurate, would be a clean water supply. If on the dirty water side, would most likely be an effluent drain of some sorts.

Clean IN, Dirty Out.

"Well site" could be a water or oil source. Deep well injections sites for waste disposal are normally specified as such, but I suppose you could still call them well sites.

Does anyone have an example P&ID they could share for raw water / fresh water well or waste water well injection site that they could share? I am coming up short trying to find some good P&ID examples of those online.

10-4 on the eye candy.

The well is a hole in the ground and can be several hundred feet deep. A casing (essentially a pipe) is driven into the hole. It has a screen in the bottom few feet to collect groundwater. There is a pump at the bottom to lift the water to a reservoir, pressure tank, or water tower. If it is a private well that's likely all there is. If it is a public or municipal well there may be disinfection as well, typically with chlorine.

The "site" is simply the location of the well.

Injection wells on the wastewater side are uncommon. Potable water wells are very common, and even many large municipalities rely on groundwater from wells.
