In my application I use 32 inputs, 32 outputs and 2 analog outputs for vfd control. I use simple instructions, nothing fancy, the program is around 4k. As a less expensive alternative can the AD dl-06 replace the 205? can it function equally? It seems as if it can do exactly the same stuff. Any thoughts?

I believe the DL06 and 250 use the same instructions, in a sense the 06 is a micro 205. I know it can meet the I/O requriements and probably the memory too. The only thing I havent been able to determine is if I/O scan time is different, that could be a factor if timing is a critical factor. Still reading to see.

Before the DL06 came out, I used the DL205 (240 and 250 CPUs) on nearly all projects. Now I use the DL06. I don't think I've bought a DL205 since the DL06 was released. For larger projects, I jump right to the DL405 series.

Besides the maximum I/O available, and a few specialty modules, the DL205 and DL06 have essentially the same capabilities.

To be more precise, the DL-06 uses the same processor as the DL-260. It just does not have as much ram available. It has the same amount as the DL-250-1. I would switch to it enclusively myself if it handled more analog outputs. I sometimes need as many as 16. It is a solid performer if you can live with the limitations.

If the I/O is not enogh for you can always add another DL06 by RS232, modbus or ethernet.

I connected 2 DL06 with RS232 and it work just fine.littel bit slowly. But is was enough for this app.
If you learn how to bypass the limitaion, you have great PLC in decent price.

The DL06 has someting the 230, 250 & 260 do not.. Retenitive memory (Non Volatile)..V7400-V7577. I see the only limitation is the expandable I/O. As it seems right now you can only increase the I/O out of the 4 slots, via networking with the second port (as Arik said).

Personally I've run into some limitations with the DL06. Until I can work them out, we'll continue using the DL240 & 9 slot bases..etc..
