Does anyone here know of a small (micro) or slot based PLC
that has modules that support a supervised output. This would
be an output that can know that its connected load is drawing
current when turned on; has non-0 ohm continuity to ground when
not turned on. Electronic overload would be OK as well.

General Electric GENIUS output modules (some) have this
capability, and I'm wondering if anyone has bothered to do it.

My requirement is for 24 120VAC outputs, total. The outputs
are only on for 250-800 milliseconds.

Barring that, is anyone aware of a socket or rail mounted relay
or electronic device that could detect AC current being
outputted by a PLC, and alarm if the current is above a
certain level?

SSAC makes an AC current sensing relay Part No: ECS41BC would be 4=120vac
1=adjustable 2 to 20 amps
B=.05 to 50 seconds A=0.15 to 7 seconds
C= 1 second delay D= 2s E=3s F=4s G=5s H=6

They make others designed for use with PLC's etc.

You have to signup to access their online catalog but they have a variety of items that you may want to look at.

I had a thought on this subject and hopefully someone can tell me if this idea is along the right track.

Couldnt you use a CT (current transformer) and an analog input card to monitor the current flow from the output to determine low/high levels? This sounds to me like a viable option that shouldnt be all that expensive or difficult to implement.

You're right

This approach would work, except that the signal conditioning
delay of a CT, into an analog input, would probably kill the
deal.

Secondly, I need to be able to know that there is actually
something connected to the output.

Again, GENIUS does all this, and, maybe the GENIUS approach
is the best.

It does surprise me that no company except GE has implemented
this 'wire fault' concept, IN A.C., as of yet.
