Omron Comms

Guys, I have an old Omron C1000H PLC with an LK201 comms module. I am having problems trying to connect my laptop to it. It should be good ol RS232 out of com1. Where do I set my communications parameters in the CX (vers.2) software. and what is the settings to use for my RS232 comms.

CX V2 - that is very old. Suggest you update to CX-One - the latest is V1.1. It has an auto online feature.

Short of that, what type of LK201 do you have? Rack mounted or plug in? Can probably help with that information.

BobB, It has both, the brick on the front of the CPU, and the slot module. I have found a setting for Sysmac Way - which was calling form Com 3 instead of Com 1 - I will try this soon. Am I correct in using sysmac Way for direct connection? what is sysmac Link and Net for?

Steve, it will be Sysmac Way - host link protocol for sure. Sysmac Link and Net Link require special cards in the computer - will not fit in a laptop - and special comms modules on the PLC.

Check the removable host link at the back and the DIP switch settings will tell you waht baud rate is being used. It is normally 9600, 7, E, 2. Could be 19200 if the original programmer was looking for a bit more speed. I did that quite regularly over the years.

You should be able to change the comm port number in the "driver"section of the settings. Also make sure you set the processor type in the PLC settings area to the right processor.

Do you have the right cable?
