I am almost certain I cannot but is it possible to use the I/O modules for the SLC 500 for the Micrologix 1100?

Only if you put a SLC5/05 in the rack with the 1746 IO and have the ML1100 message data to the 5/05 to place in the IO image table.

The expansion I/O for the MicroLogix 1100 is very straightforward; you can use any four 1762-series expansion I/O modules.
These modules are used for both the MicroLogix 1100 and 1200.
