hi,

i have created a project & assigned a shortcut in my RSLinx Enterprise communications setup for Local & Target, say SLC500, now if i m not wrong i have to use the same name (SLC500) while assigning tag value in my display screen, eg {::[SLC500]B3:0/1} inside the square brackets,

now my Q is if i change my shortcut (local & target) to different name say (ProjectX) then how can i change all the tag values in my graphical screens/display in a just 1 step, is there any way to do it, or i have to double click on each individual pushbuttons or indicators & change the name inside the square brackets to
{::[ProjectX]B3:0/1}

i m not connected online with PLC/ HMI right now, working offline.

thanks

Open the graphic display and select all of the objects (Edit menu - Select All). Then from the Edit menu select Tag Substitution.

Then the easiest thing to do is to just type in the name you want replaced (in the search field) and then type the name you want to replace it with (in the replace field). Deselect the "Confirm Replacement" and hit Replace.

Anywhere that name is used, even in an expression it will be replaced. However if you have created HMI tags this will not update the tags. This only fixes the "direct reference".

The only problem is you have to do this replacement display by display. I wish there were a control that would let you select all tags in all displays and do the replacement for all of them at once.

The only other problem, is that this doesn't work when using tags defined in the HMI's tag database. Those you still have to go through manually.

As an aside, although the 'Direct Reference' tags are useful sometimes, I've stopped using them unless absolutely necessary. I've found it much more productive (and less error-prone) to build up a tag database manually then use direct references.

I tend to do the opposite. I rarely ever use HMI tags, opting instead for direct reference.

But, if I had done this with HMI tags, to correct this I would have exported the tags to a .csv and changed the tag info in Excel and then use search and replace.
