Hey,

Not really a PLC question, anyway:

We have machines running on old PC's (286, x86). What we wanna do is change this into new PC's so that we have spare parts, we allready have the new software.

But, what we need is absolutely one ISA slot, that's where the communication board goe into.

The disk drive should be placed externally, but I think we need to use the flat clable to connect to it instead of USB, or can u boot from an USB drive also ?

We need a small sized PC, 1 ISA slot, no monitor, doesn't has to be a ferrari, no high requirements.

Any advise where to get this ?

We need a lot of these babys if the test is succesfull

Try Black Box and/or Advantech. They both supply industrial PC equipment and have probably got a board with an ISA slot.

Hey

It will not work, because we are going to run an old DOS application on it, no windows, u need windows for that converter.

I always recommend getting standard, commercially available equipment. Why risk production with non-standard, homemade hardware????

IF you can find a mobo with an ISA it will most likely be used/repaired. Then in a couple of years, you're going to be doing it again.

It sounds like it's probably time to look at replacing the control system on those machines with contemporary, commercially-available PLC hardware.

I have used Advantec over the years. They have a single board computer that you put into a passive backplane. They have backplanes that have any type and number of slots you need. These do use external hard drives and they even have panel mount cases for these. You should take a look.
