what are the steps required to program a dc drive for a dc motor in general. There are many parameters that are not required to look at nor to program Thanks a lot

It's difficult to give a general answer as the variety of drives available offers a wide range of different programming parameters.

Some lower end drives only have a few potentiometers to set current limit and maximum voltage, while others have complex control strategies based on function blocks.

I would say at the very least you need to provide the motor voltage and FLA, field voltage and current and motor RPM.
