Hi All,

I would like to back up all our Protool projects to compact flash cards, so if an HMI goes down the shift guys can load the new HMI up using the on board restore function. I have no problem backing the project up through the HMI to a compact flash card. But for the life of me I cannot work out how to back up to compact flash from inside Protool, off line, in a format that the HMI will restore from. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Jon

For the "graphical" panels in the OP25-OP35-OP45 series, you select upon download that the target is the memory card inserted into the panel.

For the Windows-based panels, you do it on the panel itself.
You must enter the Windows Control Panel on the panel. There you will find a Backup/Restore applet. Backup stores an image on the flashcard.

NOTE: In the latest versions of the Windows based panels, it is not a complete image that is backed up. The image file can only be restored to an exactly similar panel with an exactly similar firmware !

Following on from Jasper’s point about possible firmware conflicts, is it possible to backdate the firmware so that they match?

Yes. You need Prosave (free) and the image file with the correct firmware version. It is called "OS Update" to load the firmware.
Unfortunately you wont achieve that your maintenance people can just plug in a flashcard. You/they have to download the firmware from Prosave first.

A tip: If the panel has ethernet, then use it ! OS Update requires a massive download.

Update.

I have to correct myself, so that I dont mislead people in case they dig up this thread.

It turns out that this is completely wrong.
The firmware is also backed up on the flash card !
