Question about Mits FX1S programming cable

Guys,
Is the FX1S programming cable a an RS232 via the mini-din or does this require an RS422 or RS485 converter.
 
The FX range is 422 so an SC09 cable is required, however there are a few threads on here about a way to connect 232 to this plc, I have not tried it but from the replies it sounds like it works although I'm a bit dubious about what damage could be caused to some 232 ports (not heard of any yet).
