I have a new line reactor where we have let the smoke out of one winding. Its a new reactor and the phases are balanced. It appears to be a manufacturing defect. In the meantime we need to continue with the start up, so we are wanting to bypass just the one winding of the reactor. Anyone know of any issues that can arise from bypassing just one of the reactor windings.

I assume this is
a 3 phase unit
each phase has multiple windings or it is a single winding with "taps".

If I am correct then you could remove one of the windings ie taps
BUT
at impaired performance
I would keep a close eye on the temperature of that one phase if I could.

Single winding per phase. No taps, just line in/line out. The manufacturer recommended that we bypass all three legs rather than just the one. Its just temporary until a new one gets here.

Yes I know but we gotta get it running blah blah blah.
They did not put in the reactor just cause it was pretty.
If machine builder designer says take it out for testing only well
1. I would be darn careful and may give it a try
2. It is not a submarine you wont sink it and go down with it
3. The world will keep turning

I suppose you got someone to blame further disasters on - bout the only blessing in these kinds of hurry up.

In this case, "they" is me, I'm the guy who spec'ed the reactors and included them in the design in the first place. 🍺

And we gotta get it running because I want to go on vacation dammit. o_O

Whats the reactor for ?

Ac Drive? DC Drive ? Other ?

I would bypass all and try it rater than one?

how big is the reactor ? (not physically!)

Can you not get a 24 hour rewind done ata rewind shop ?

I really hate it when the person causing all my problems is me.

And then talk about a rock and a hard spot
Catchin hell
at work cause it is not working
at home cause wife is ticked off at screwed up vacation plans

What's a poor man to do?

I'd jumper the bad coil and go for it. What's the worst that can happen?

The rest of the reactor burn up? It's already shot!

The drive see too much noise and trip? That's also what you'll get if you take it completely out!

Nah!! Go for it! and plan on replacing it after vacation for sure.

I doubt that any problem will result.
