RSLogix 5000 and Softlogix

Hello,

This may seem like an elementary question, but can both the RSLogix 5000 program and the Softlogix 5800 product reside on the same computer? Or must they be on separate boxes, connected by ethernet. I plan to use the 1784-PM16SE PCI card for communication to Kinetix 6000 series drives.

That's the most common way to run them; the Virtual Backplane driver in RSLinx Classic connects RSLogix 5000 to the SoftLogix controller or RSEmulate 5000.

That's the way I usually see them used: RSLogix 5000 and SoftLogix 5800 on the same computer.

Setting up a connection to the SoftLogix EtherNet/IP module is actually pretty tricky, so I prefer to run my RSLogix 5000 locally.
