I cant seem to find where its written that it talks about running shielded wires to the AI/AO modules. Does it need to be shielded on the AO of the plc or what?

We run all our AI/AO's from plcs, drives, intelligent modules etc as shielded regardless of the plc make or drive brand.

Its not matter of what plc/dcs or independent controller you use, its matter that signal going through the wire is of analog nature what makes it need to be shielded cable.

I agree with TurpoUrpo; it does depend on the signal going through the wire. The reason for shielding wires is to keep unwanted noise from interfering with our analog information signal.
