servo programming?

I am wanting to learn servo programming. I have not had any formal training on the subject. I understand that the terminology and syntax will vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. I need the basics to start and then build on that. Question anyone have any good links on the subject. I have looked everywhere and cannot seem to find anything on the subject. thanks in advance
