QuickII software connection problem

Ok, So I have a plc and it can either be connected through a serial port or I can connect it with the usb converter. My computer shows that it's connected when it is pluged in but I am having a problem with QuickII and my plc. Everytime I connect it and try to write my program to my plc it sends back a message that says communication error? may be caused by bad line or wrong address message. Im wondering how do I know what the address is?
