AB flex I/O

Hello, I have just had my flex I/O hardware delivered and have a PLC5/40 AB program on the PLC processor which needs to be tested. Being a student on vocation work i have little experience with PLC's (2 Weeks). The hardware includes 5 input modules and 6 output modules,two flex I/O adapters, and 11 terminal bases.

I need to know what has to be done to configure the inputs and outputs in my program to communicate to the correct ports of the hardware. There might be a lot more involved like the DIP switches in the adapters need to be touched nicely.

Probably you have two 1794-ASB Remote I/O adapters, and the Series letter is very important with the configuration of those modules. Make sure you know if you have a Series A, B, C, D, or E adapter.

Next post the precise part numbers of the FLEX modules you intend to attach to each adapter.

Basic discrete modules don't need much configuration; in fact, there's an "autoconfigure" function in RSLogix 5.

Analog or specialty modules need "block transfer" instructions in your ladder logic program to configure them and transfer data to and from them.

Part Numbers

Thanks Ken, i am planning to have two racks one with input (in series) and one with ouputs(in series). The part numbers are:
- two adapters 1794-ASB
- 5 input modules 1794 -IV16
- 4 output modules 1794 - 088EP
- 2 output modules 1794 - 0816P

ohh and...

i think it is serial A
