Siemens S7 setup

Hi I've been askied to install a HMI to show some basic plant data, the data comes from 8 machines with siemens s7 networked via ethernet on a plant server. The HMI and plc will be installed on another level to the 8 machines. Does anybody know a cheap way of achiving this or any useful programming tips? The HMI and plc will be Siemens.
