Is there any difference between these batteries other than the connector style?
We have a ControlLogix L61 processor with a dead 1756-BA2 battery. The plant only has spare 1756-BA1 batteries and the local Rockwell supplier does not have any stock of 1756-BA2's. Maintenance tried attaching the connector for the BA2 to the BA1 battery (red to red, black to black) but the CLX does not see it as a good battery. The battery measures 3.1V

See picture and pdf below.

It does not tell you the difference but it clearly says not to mix and match.

The 1756-BA1 battery is the battery used on the original ControlLogix L1 processors and the later L55 processors. They work fine on those processors. When the L6x processors came out, the series A used the same battery. Problem was it had really short battery life when the PLC was powered off. The series B fixed that by adding a compact flash so the battery only had to hold memory up until the processor memory was copied to flash. I wouldn't be surprised to find that the new 1756-BA2 battery has charge control and status electronics in it similar to cell phone batteries.
