RSLogix 5000 v20 has a new feature of "EDS-based Add-On-Profiles".
Classic AOPs are little applets that integrate with RSLogix 5000. They have to be carefully integrated with RSLogix and require a lot of testing and revision support.
EDS-based AOPs will allow you to create an I/O object with a structured UDT that's automatically created when you add the device to the I/O tree. The structure of the UDT will be determined by the [ASSEMBLY] section of the EDS file.
I think that they're supposed to also allow a Parameter object tab, similar to the Parameter Editor in RSNetworx.
But I haven't seen one work, yet. Every third-party EDS I've tried to import fails in some way, usually by creating incorrectly sized or un-named data blocks.
I was told that RA will be writing an 'EDS-based AOP Implementor's Guide" but I haven't seen a draft or other information about it.
See if you can get some information on that from the Technology Sharing / "EnABled" group at Rockwell, or send your distributor specialist to RSTechEd with a mission to find out about it.
