A local company makes a version of this for regrinding polystyrene material after the formed product has been cut out (though it could take on all the materials shown and had the automatic back-up in case of a potential stall). It is always very heavily guarded.
But you are right, this is a foolish way to demonstrate it.
In the video, it appears that if a jam exceeds some time period (maybe some current level), then the machine auto-reverses for about 1 second to clear the jam.
I would like to see it crunch up some carbon-furnace soot on a humid day. That crusher would be set up with black concrete after a couple of hours, unless it was about a 100 HP size. I think it was built mainly for recycling municipal waste - lots of used tampons. They did not indicate how it smelled.
I was just imagining, right from the start, if that belt had wrapped itself around his wrist - would it have pulled him through the grinder, or just taken his arm off ?
My internet connection will let me watch it apx. 45 minutes from now. Is this the same one that was on an ed channel munching bowling balls and cars a few years ago?
Kid, you MUST sneak some video of that aluminum shredder, somehow, I gotta see that machine.
The one shredding bowling balls was a similar unit made by SSI. SSI has a bunch of videos showing their grinders shredding pretty much anything they throw in it...
The "Shredders" at our local recycle yard eats these things for breakfast.
Not really so dangerous as demonstrated. Maybe a few flying parts but the screws were moving very slow and without the hoppers to keep them fed, even a hand going in would just cut off a finger and not pull the rest of the body in. Where is your sense of adventure? What is life if there isn't a risk once in a while?
