I am trying to use an Allen Bradley 1100 micrologix controller on a mobile device. All onboard devices are 24VDC and I would like to use a 24V power source to power the PLC as well as the onboard devices. How can I bypass the 110 AC power supply and run the controller and the onboard devices using strictly 24V DC.

They make a model with 24 volt power and I/O. Just buy that one>

I work in the school system and I was trying to use what I already have. My thoughts were the 110 AC functioned as input to the power supply only and everything else ran on DC voltage. I couldn't find a schematic of the boards etc. I think I saw the model you're speaking of and it was around $600 if I recall correctly. Thanks for your advice.

Admirable thoughts, but no cigar. Working for a government agency leads to socialistic thinking ("I can work only with what is provided"). I have worked for government many times. I found that when I learned to think outside the real-politic Big Brother mentality and look for other methods, then I was able to achieve much more inside the system. For example, many private compaines will happily donate products, materials, time, and money to schools. There are many private citizens that willingly buy what a school needs.

One method that I used at times when nothing else was working was simply to buy and pay for what I needed, carefully documenting the reasons AND the receipts. Then later, after some impressive demonstration of the equipment, when the Big Wigs are standing around patting themselves on the back, slyly mention that it is a shame that I have to sell the personal stuff back to the store in in order to fund the next project. After that, new goods often pour in. You do have to know what you need and what will work. In other words, put your money where your mouth is now.

Don't just work with what you are given. Find what you need, then find a way to get it.
