My pv 1000 is connected to my 5/04, I would like to know if there is another way to program it through the 5/04 with out unplugging it from my 5/04 and then plugging it into my lap top then when I am done programming it I have to plug it back into the 5/04. It is getting very annoying.

Thank you.

It depends on what protocols and connections you are using.

Rule #1 with PanelView questions is "post the entire part number" because that usually tells us the exact physical and network protocol connectivity of the PanelView.

The most common way to download to a PanelView via an SLC-5/04 is to have the PanelView connected on DH+, and your PC connected to the Channel 0 serial port using DF1 protocol. Setting the DF1/DH+ Passthrough bits (you can look them up) and configuring the DF1 driver for "1770-KF2" mode will let you browse the DH+ network by "drilling down" through the SLC-5/04.

Describe in detail the various ports and cables you are using now.

Okay, here is my set up;

I have 2 PVs
2711-K6C5 L1 (PV 600)
2711-T10C8 (PV 1000)

Lap top to 5/04 - 1747 UIC to 1747-CP3 cable to 9 in connector on 5/04

5/04 to PV 600 I am unplugging the cp3 cable to the lap top and using a straight through cable to the PV 600.

5/04 to PV 1000 I am using the top DH + port on the 5/04

To program the PV 600 I plug the straight thru cable into the UIC.

I am not to concerned if I cant use the PV 1000 as it is just some thing extra I have laying around.

Thanks again.

You ask questions backwards.

That is not what I would have guessed.

The best you could do with this hardware is to set up a small DH485 network using using a 1761-NET-AIC module. This would allow you to program the SLC-5/03 and download to the PanelView 600 without disconnecting anything.

If you had a 1784-U2DHP or other DH+ interface to your computer, you could in theory connect to the DH+ network and "pass through" to the DH485 network, allowing you to connect to all three devices without changing cables.

If I had your system, I would buy a general purpose USB/RS232 converter (the Forum favorite is the Keyspan USA-19HS) and dedicate it to the download port of the PanelView 1000 terminal.

You can leave the 1747-UIC driver running to handle the SLC and the PanelView 600 terminal, and use a separate DF1 Full Duplex driver to download to the PanelView 1000.

I have done DH+ to DH485 passthrough Panelview downloads but setting up the routing is no trivial task. To do this we had a CLogix Gateway setup with a 1756-ENET and a 1756-DHRIO. You have to setup routing in both the ENET and in your local RSLinx along with having unique Pass Thru link IDs in the 5/04.

Not sure how to setup the routing if you just had a 1784-PCMK or 1784-U2DHP.

There is a technote on how to do it.
