I was cleaning out one of the drawers at my work and came across this cable and wasn't 100% sure what it was for interfacing. I found like 7 or so of them on ebay all asking $1000 or better. I thought sure that's just what people are asking but not getting and one of the auctions had multiple bids on it. Does this thing tell you where the lost city of Atlantis is or something?

If I am right, I don't believe they make them any more is one reason. New prices seem to be almost $3,000

If you have a a large DH+ network these can be invaluable for trouble shooting as it lets your computer connect to it, and with any legacy Rockwell equipment the prices skyrocket to urge you to buy there "new" stuff. All the ones I have seen online are well over $1000.

It's Rockwell being Rockwell. This cable is required for modern computers that don't have a PCMCIA slot anymore, the previous DH+ adapters used the PCMK card in the PCMCIA slot for comms. New computers don't have it, and if you are using virtual machines for any support USB cables are a necessity.

Drive up the costs, it makes a bridge such as a ControlLogix chassis with DHRIO card and Ethernet card a better option for accessing the DH+ network rather than connecting to DH+ directly. On some levels I agree with this, however it's still ridiculous.

AFAIK it's still made as I ordered 4 of them a few months back. They are just expensive as Rockwell is trying hard to push people forward and off RIO.

Many of the RIO based products are being discontinued becuase they can no longer get the chips required to make them or at least thats the story being told.

The 20-COMM-r is a primary one in process or already discontinued and we use a lot of those to adapt newer PF 750 series drives to older PLC 5 /RIO based systems.

I purchased a large sum of these late last year due to this.

Thanks for correcting me, I knew the RIO DH+ is being phased out, for some reason I thought that cable was one of the items discontinued.

One of the RIO systems we have left I would like to discontinue with a bucket of water in its main panel, save the robot, put an Ethernet card on its controller and install a Control or Compact Logix on it then through away the legacy panel view on it

RIO?? Where in the documentation does it say you can connect to a RIO network with this device?

You are right on that Mickey, I don't know how RIO got thrown in there but I jumped on the bandwagon even tho I new and initially said DH+. The point we were making remains mostly valid if you just remove the term RIO and insert DH+ so not a completely wasted effort
