Hi guys,

I dont have very much knowledge on the hardware available for automation processes. The question : is there such a sensor that will detect a single grain seed falling down a 2" steel pipe?

Any idea how it can be detected??

I would think you could do it with a capacitive proximity switch.

YEs but is there any that will actually sense such a small difference while falling

We use them to detect 3.0mm plastic pellets?
They are falling at a 45 deg angle so I don't know if it would work for you.

Try looking at

Then clicking on Dynamic Optical Windows. The small window claims resolution down to 0.8mm.

It also stated not to use (or must be shielded from) direct sunlight and you actually couldn't sense the grain when it's in the tube but you could check when it is entering or leaving.

So...
a guy tries to practice a little self-depreciating humor, that is, "self"-disparaging humor, on himself.

Would the preceeding be considered a bit redundant? Well, maybe. But apparently, a little redundancy is necessary for those that don't know "self"-depreciation when they see it.
