So I have a USB to PPI-RS485
Multi Master Cable
1P 6Es7 901-3D830-0XA0
SC-W7K81802

Is this the cable I can connect my Windows 7 machine
with Step Y software installed to a S7-400 Processor
to grab the running program off of the PLC
Thanks

I also have an S7-300 processor that only has two 25 pin connectors
not sure what cable is used for that

The MultiMaster cable is a PPI and works with S7 200, not the 300 or 400 CPU, you will need a ProfiBus or MPI cable depending on the CPU, the 300 should have a DB9 not a 25 pin

What are the part numbers of the 400 and 300 CPU's

S7-400 cable

Ahh ok
I do have a 6ES7 972-0CB20-0XA0
UAB to MPI

With TIA portal V11 do I need a usb driver for this cable

no idea on the part numbers for th S7-400 the S7-300 is a RIO module
I got confused.

It depends on the version of TIA portal, I am using V13 Pro, you need to have the Pro version for it to work with the 300/400 CPU's, I still use Step7 V5.5 for the 300/400 and I use TIA for the 1200/1500 CPU's

The part numbers of the PLC is very important, especially if you are trying to use Portal. TIA only supports HW that has been sold since Oct 2007. Most of these CPUs support ethernet, and the majority of the ones that dont support ethernet support Profibus, which is a 9 pin.

If you are looking at a 25 pin connection it is probably either a very old device that isn't supported by Portal, or actually something like an encoder connection, and not a communications interface at all.

Older Eq I think

System been installed about ten years
I have Step7 v 7.1 and Step7 Pro 2010 which is V 5.5 I think
Can I install both version TIA v 11 ans Step 7 V 7.1 on the
same machine
Thanks

You can install S7 v13 and S7 v5.5 on the same machine. I've never heard of S7 v7.1.

"STEP7 v7.1" is probably STEP5 v7.1

STEP7 Pro 2010 includes STEP7 v5.5 + GRAPH + SCL + PLCSIM.

Also, post the exact type nos for all the parts ("6ES7.....").

TIA only supports HW that has been sold since Oct 2007.

Are you sure? I went on line with a 315-2 DP on the ProfiBus port that was made before 2007 with TIA portal v13... that said I only look at if it was active and did not do any programming

asterof, You may want to look at this cable we sell, its good for Profibus, MPI and PPI and should help you get connected regardless of the software and CPU but you will need to know what you are dealing with http://www.plccable.com/siemens-plc...fibus-dp-ppi-32-or-64-bit-6gk1571-0ba00-0aa0/

dont know the part number yet

Site unseen, a customer wants me to connect and upload
the existing program because he has no backup.

So I can not spend any money for new cables if I can avoid it
So I do have STEP7 Pro 2010 includes STEP7 v5.5 my bad I named
the zip 7.1 for some odd reason, sorry
I have official Siemens cable 6ES7 972-0CB20-0XA0 USB TO 9 PIN
Wanted to be sure with TIA 11 installed Step7 5.5 would still
install with no driver conflicts, do I need a USB driver
for 5.5 using this cable
Thanks

You should be fine with that cable, its MPI and Profibus, so the CPU should have one of those ports available

TIA 11 is old and I do not think it will work, you should upgrade to 13 and then yes the cable you have will work as long as the software supports the CPU

Going online may be a different story, I'm not sure, but only devices since 2007 are in the HW catalog. If he is trying to upload the project, then I don't think it would work if the HW is too old.

That said, I've been told that the important thing with the 2007 date isn't devices newer than 2007, its anything that was considered "active" on Oct 1, 2007. If the device is currently sold, or if the discontinuation was announced after 2007, then it should be supported by the appropriate version of TIA Portal.

So a funny thing happend

So my Step 7 software was 5.4
I tried to install in on the Windows 7 machine
that TIA 11 was on and it said it would not install on
the OS. So I swapped my HD to a XP HD OS system.
I installed 5.4 and it seems fine. But when I connected the
USB to MPI system does not see the cable

Driver

I saw that link in another posting
I had tried it, but it would not download
I tried your link and it downloaded fine.
Strange
Anyway thanks for the link
Have a good one
