1756-CNBR/D revisions

hi all,
i have 1756-CNBR/D module with revision 5.1(compatible keying choice) and i want to replace it by another one with revision 5.38.40 i think i will one of the following solution:
1-as it is compatible keying i will replace the card with any change.
2-or make downgrade for the new
if the solutions are right or not
and how to make downgrade
