1769-ASCII Setup Help

All,

I have a 1769-L24ER-QBFC1B processor with a 1769-ASCII card that I am trying to get working on the bench. I have a standard serial cable hooked up from Channel 0 of the ASCII card to the COM1 port of my computer. All I'm trying to do at this point is a simple bare-bones hello world program with a terminal (termite or putty) so that I can verify my setup and understand how it works before I try to implement it on the plant floor. I have the card set up in alternating mode and am using the pre-canned program found starting on page 35 of the user manual(1769-um012) .This is my first time using the ASCII card I am familiar with the CompactLogix processors and the RSLogix Suite. Any insight you can give would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the reply Garry, I had the wrong cable and have now made my own per the thread you sent. I can now transmit from the PLC to the terminal just fine but I cannot receive anything form the terminal. I have also tried making the cable match the spec in the user manual with no change (tying 1, 4, and 6 together) in the communication behavior. I'm sure its something simple that I am missing but I can't quite figure it out. I don't suppose you have anything else I can try.

I would check your settings in termite or putty. The above link may help. Remember sometimes you have to hit the enter key to send the characters out the port. (Again Setup)
