Get the PLC-5 User Manual:

And read Chapter 6.

Block Transfer Read (BTR) and Block Transfer Write (BTW) are used to send blocks of data to modules, particularly Analog and Specialty modules, on A-B Remote I/O (RIO) networks.

Block transfers are also used in PLC-2, PLC-3, and SLC-5/0x controllers.

most of my students find the “mailman” analogy covered there to be very helpful in understanding what’s going on ... if you need more detail than that, it would be a good idea to post again and give us a specific example of how your program is using those Block Transfers ... as my distinguished colleague Ken Roach has pointed out, there are numerous uses for these instructions ... once we know more about how yours are set up, then we can give you more detailed help ...
