Adding programming access to DH-485 network

Hi There

I currently have an installation which includes a PV700 connected to a SLC 5/03 using DH-485. The issue I have is that I cannot connect my laptop to the machine while it is running without breaking the connection to the HMI (not ideal).

One option I am looking at is replacing the SLC 5/03 with a 5/ 05 and utilising the ethernet connections.

Before I do this does anyone have any advice on how I could add laptop access to the existing DH-485 setup.

What physical connection is it between the PV+ and the SLC-5/03 ?

One of the DH485 isolators, 1747-AIC (old style) or 1761-NET-AIC (modern with RS232) might work, and give you a place to plug in a 1747-UIC to the network.

Yes, the connection is between an add on module on the PV (giving dh-485) straight to the slc5/03. I might add that the 232 connection on the SLC is used to talk to a remote PC so is not available.

Just to add...there is a DH+ socket beside the DH-485 one on the panel view...could this be utilised for access ? I have also attached a simple diagram of what exists.

Thanks for this Mickey. I haven't used one of these before. I take it I would just split the 485 cable and daisychain it through the AIC then utilise the 232 connection for the laptop access.
