Running multiple instances of RSLogix5000 and Studio5000 has never been an issue for me. It is just the install time that grinds me down.
Doing so allows me to copy/paste just about anything between project files at different versions, you just need to have them open in multiple windows.
Now of course if you run them in VMs, you are going to have to allow copy/paste between VMs, something that I don't think is default
I have resisted the use of VMs, because basically, in my opinion, it is a kludge that the OS should be doing, but Microsoft were happy to proceed without giving much in the way of legacy support. Perhaps it's their way of guaranteeing their future sales.
And can someone please explain why, after installing Windows in under an hour, I have to do "Windows Update" multiple times until there are no more ? This can take 10 times longer than installing Windows in the first place....
Why can't they offer a single installer that does everything in one shot ? Apple can do it, you can upgrade a MAC or an iPad or iPhone in one hit, so why can't Microsoft do it ?
