Allen Bradley 842-E encoder setup issue

I am trying to set up an Allen Bradley 842-E-CM-S encoder in a Control Logix

L81E I have it configured and the ethernet sees the encoder with no problem

I have the encoder assigned to a motion group and am wanting to use it for

feedback only I have no errors at all but I am not getting any counts from the

encoder according to the LED lights on the encoder the X axis is in standby

has anyone had this same problem trying to set one of these encoders up
